The wholesale fish market at Umm Salal reopened partially on Sunday. The market was closed on March 15 in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.
Strict health precautionary measures were in place at the market. Employees and visitors were allowed to enter the market under strict adherence to medical protocol.
Prior to the opening, all the permanent employees at the market and shops had to undertake COVID-10 test to ensure the health and safety of all.
A special team was deployed to check the Ehteraz app and ensure wearing of masks by entering the market premises.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, a shop employee said, “The market is expected to be fully operational after a couple of weeks. As the COVID-19 protocol still continues, the number of people visiting the market is less. We are expecting better sales once the daily fish auction begins.”
The ‘fish auction’ is yet to begin at the market.
Currently, wholesale fish markets at Al Wakra and Al Khor have ‘fish auction’ on a daily basis that attract a large number of people.
