Qatar Charity (QC) has received a donation of about QR25,000 from the International Physiotherapy Centre for the construction of Al Shaimaa Secondary Girls School building in the Gaza Strip.
The donation is part of the centre's participation in 'Supporting Education through Cycling' initiative, which has been continuing for the third consecutive year.
QC, in collaboration with 'Qatar Cyclists' and 'Qatar Sandstormers' teams, has launched the initiative to invest the young athletes' energy to support development projects in the disadvantaged regions through building and equipping educational facilities.
The youth initiative team has participated in several international cycling events in the last two years. It crossed nearly 2,000 km at high altitudes, and the route sometimes exceeded 5,000 metres in the Alps. Despite the difficulty of the challenge, Qatar Cyclists team won the first prize beating 24 other teams from 24 countries and succeeded in mobilising funds for their project.
Salman Kaldary, executive director for Local Development at QC, said that Qatar Charity aims to support both charity work and sports, and to raise the sports awareness of the Qatari people. By building the school, QC is supporting the development and humanitarian projects in Gaza.
Director of the International Physiotherapy Centre said,"We would like to announce that the International Physiotherapy Centre has made a donation to Qatar Charity in favour of building a girls' secondary school in the Gaza Strip. Education through Cycling team, which is a group of youngsters participating in challenging sport events in favour of collecting donations, has contributed to this initiative."
Next phase of the 'Supporting Education through Cycling' initiative aims to raise QR5,000,000 to rebuild a high school for 1,000 female students.
The International Physiotherapy Centre (www.theipcentre.com) has two clinics in Al Markhiya and Al Waab. It aims to develop new standards for welfare and rehabilitation in Qatar through treating all types of injuries, pain and physical problems.
