Having fulfilled all the necessary requirements, the Ethiopian Community International School in Qatar (ECIS-Qatar) has gotten the license from Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education to teach from KG to Secondary School levels. The license allows the school to enroll students from KG to secondary school levels.According to the Ethiopian embassy EICS is now ready to welcome students after a huge renovation has been successfully done to it. The School committee has been working on the preparation since 2017. It is now finalizing the staff recruitment and furnishing in collaboration with Qatari stakeholders and the Ethiopian Community in Doha. The School has officially commenced registration effective from 23 August 2020. For 2020/2021 academic year, the School admits only KG-1, KG-2, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students.According to the embassy The Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani granted the School premise located in Shehaniya to the Ethiopian community during the official visit of the former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to Doha in 2017. This grant is one of the tangible proofs of the strong bilateral ties between the two sisterly countries. The Embassy and the Ethiopian Community thanked His Highness The Amir and the government of Qatar and all stakeholders that have been working tirelessly to realise the school.According to the Ethiopian Embassy, the Ethiopian expatriates have for long been eagerly waiting for the school to open its doors. The opening of the school will be a big relief to many, as many Ethiopian expats have had to send their children back home for studies in the absence of a school offering Ethiopian curriculum. Currently, there are about 20,000 Ethiopians living and working in Qatar. Quite a significant number of the Ethiopian families have sent their children to Ethiopia for schooling.The Ethiopian Community International School in Qatar envisions producing well-disciplined, self-confident, respectful, and reasonable individuals, who are able to attain a level, where they can utilize their academic and social skills, to be globally competitive and capable of supporting themselves, their communities, and their country at large.
