talabat, the region’s leading local tech platform, on Sunday announced the launch of an electric bikes pilot in Qatar, in collaboration with EV specialists Rotor Mobility.

This announcement reiterates the company’s ongoing commitment to implementing solutions that contribute in building a more sustainable delivery system across the region by reducing delivery emissions.

This latest initiative builds on the company’s commitment to the Qatar National 2030 Vision for sustainability, promoting dynamic economic growth underpinned by sustainable environmental footprint. Using Rotor Mobility’s industry leading solutions from VMOTO, the pilot testing includes set-up of a temporary ‘hot swap’ battery charging station and an application for fleet tracking, allowing talabat to bypass traditional EV range anxiety.

The ‘smart battery’ condition reporting technology as well as automotive industry standard CANBUS and IoT systems make VMOTO the leader in this sector, and a B2B centred partner for delivery service platforms.

Commenting on the announcement, Francisco Miguel De Sousa, managing director of talabat Qatar, said: “We are proud to embark on this exciting new journey with our partners and lead at the forefront towards redefining the delivery ecosystem in Qatar. This pilot test of electric bikes is the perfect next step for us as a brand, towards exploring environmentally-friendly, reliable and affordable delivery operations that support Qatar National Vision 2030 for a sustainable future. As the demand for online and q-commerce services continues to grow, we envision a bright future for electric vehicles in Qatar and recognise our own responsibility in driving this positive change.”

Yousef Bazian, founder of ESG Solutions and Rotor Mobility Qatar, said: “As our DNA is 100 percent electric, we are proud to support talabat on this journey. Using our innovative solutions, talabat is able to offset emissions and costs while meeting the mileage needs of their services. This puts them firmly ahead, driving the evolution towards a more sustainable and cleaner delivery ecosystem in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Commenting on the project, Demetrios Melekos from US Heritage Powersports and Jumla Automotive said, “The opportunity to work with talabat Qatar is a best case scenario that we as the regional manufacturer of VMOTO products could have hoped for. Together, we will evaluate the real world application of EV alternatives to petrol powered internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. To have the expertise of the talabat team scrutinising the performance of our vehicles is valuable research and development. Starting in the first quarter of 2023, we anticipate production of VMOTO in the Qatar Free Zone.”

talabat already implements industry leading sustainability standards in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, which has further underlined its commitment to creating a positive impact and playing an active role by mapping its yearly carbon footprint in Qatar. The organisation also launched several sustainability focused pilot projects, including its autonomous delivery robots ‘talabot’ in Qatar Foundation and Msheireb district, delivery by electric scooters at different events, such as Lusail Outdoor Cinema, as well as exploring drone delivery as part of its vision for the future of delivery in the region.

Customers can download the talabat application through the iOS App Store, Google Playstore and Huawei App Gallery.
