AN Italian Folk Show presented by popular Italian cultural troupe Compagnia Soleluna enthralled viewers at Katara Drama theatre recently.
Organised jointly by the Cultural Village Foundation Katara and the Italian Embassy, the folk show included music from southern Italy, and some folk dances.
The event showcased the richness of Italian culture to the residents of Qatar. Speaking on the occasion the Italian Ambassador to Qatar HE Guido De Sanctis said that he looked forward to more such events in Doha in future.
He added"tonight's music celebrates joys of life. The music, especially the use of drums in it, may remind some of the locals here of their own music."
Attendees to the event included residents of diverse nationalities in Qatar as well as some tourists who are here to attend the different festivals and events Qatar is holding this season.
Italian residents in Qatar, whose total population is 2,500 in Qatar, gathered in large numbers at the theatre to enjoy their traditional folk music.
Talking to Qatar Tribune Italian expatriate Roberto said"I was actually born in southern Italy while this music comes from the southeastern part of Italy. This music has many similarities with the Arabic music."
The hall resonated with the applause the performances evoked from the audience throughout the show.
