The Ministry of Culture on Saturday launched at the City Centre mall in Doha a huge plastic artwork ‘Ball Story’ by artist Emad Salehi, in preparation for its display at Qatar University on December 7, with the aim of setting a new record in the Guinness Book.
The inauguration included a video presentation and a review of the main features of the 9,600-metre-long work, which tells the story of the World Cup from its inception in 1930 until the World Cup Qatar 2022.
Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture Maryam Yassin Al Hammadi confirmed that the launch of the work comes within the framework of the Ministry of Culture’s keenness to support creativity, respond to distinctive initiatives that are related to lofty goals, and sponsor experiments that enhance the link between science and work. She explained that artist Emad Salehi embodies in his work a complete stage of Qatari achievement stretching from 2012 to 2022.
In a statement to QNA, the artist Emad Salehi noted that the painting "Ball Story” tells the history of the World Cup from its inception in 1930 until the World Cup 2022, which combines culture, history and sports and embodies the landmarks and icons of all the World Cup tournaments in Qatar.
