Japan full back Hiroki Sakai is still suffering from a thigh problem and is a doubt for Sunday’s World Cup game against Costa Rica.
Japan beat Germany in their Group E opener and now have the chance to seal last 16 qualification if results go their way. “I don’t feel that bad, but the final decision has to be made by the coach. I will talk to the coach, the team and the doctor,” Sakai said. He added that he wanted to play, but “an injury is an injury.” Sakai was substituted in the 75th minute against the Germans.
