Brazil were not glorious without their injured talisman Neymar but Casemiro scored a late 1-0 winner over Switzerland on Monday to send the record five-time champions into the Qatar World Cup knock-out stages. Manchester United’s Casemiro fired into the top right corner in the 83rd minute off his former Real Madrid team-mates Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. Vinicius Junior had wasted a big chance in the 27th and had a goal disallowed in the 64th at Stadium 974 in Doha for the top title contenders who follow defending champions France into the last 16. Switzerland, who had drawn with Brazil in their previous two World Cup games 1950 and 2018, had stood firm for most of the game but failed to threaten them before patient Brazil found the late opening. Brazil top Group G with a maximum six points while the Swiss remain on three. Sports page 1
