The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani led well-wishers to welcome the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia upon his arrival at Hamad International Airport on Monday. King Salman is on a two-day official visit to Qatar.
HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani, Personal Representative of the Emir, the Deputy Emir HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al Thani and Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani were at the airport to welcome the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Expressing great pleasure on the visit of King Salman to Qatar, the Emir said Qatar shares deep-rooted, strong and well-established fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia. The Emir expressed immense pride over the historic relations between the two countries.
"I would like to extend on behalf of the people of Qatar and on my own behalf our sincere welcome to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud of Saudi Arabia, for whom we have deep affection and appreciation. We share deep-rooted, strongest and well-established fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia. I may not need to stress our immense pride over the strong friendly and historic relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia laid by parents and grandparents, who are keen on enhancing and developing them for the benefit of our people," the Emir said.
An official welcome ceremony for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, along with a popular celebration, was held at the Emiri Diwan. The official ceremony started with the arrival of King Salman's motorcade followed by playing of the Saudi and Qatari national anthems.
The Emir handed over King Salman the Sword of the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, the highest national decoration. It was the first time that this sword was presented and it was an expression of the Emir's affection and appreciation for King Salman.
