Minister of Labour HE Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, affirmed that the achievements and continuous efforts implemented by the State of Qatar have contributed to improving the work environment for hundreds of thousands of migrant workers.

His Excellency pointed out that some parties that lack impartiality ignore these labor reforms and continue to publish biased and misleading reports on occupational accidents in the country.

His Excellency explained that all these misleading reports will not weaken the determination of the State of Qatar to redouble efforts and move forward with the reform program, especially by continuing to strengthen regional and multilateral cooperation, for the benefit of the work environment in Qatar.

This came during a seminar organized by the Ministry of Labor today, on the sidelines of the ILO's 17th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting, currently being held in Singapore.

His Excellency indicated that the State of Qatar has made great progress in the field of occupational health and safety, with the aim of enhancing efficiency and achieving sustainable compliance with national and international standards in the field of prevention.

His Excellency pointed out that the accident registration system has been developed, and data collection, analysis and dissemination have been improved to enhance transparency.

HE the Minister of Labor noted that the State of Qatar has become one of the developed countries in the region in the field of protecting workers from heat stress, through the new legislation and measures that have been adopted.

Participants in the meeting praised the reforms implemented by the State of Qatar in the labor sector over the past years, especially with regard to the non-discriminatory minimum wage law, the abolition of the sponsorship system, and the systems to protect workers from heat stress during the summer.

They affirmed that these fundamental reforms led to an improvement in the work environment and the improvement of the conditions of expatriate workers.

They explained, during their speeches at the meeting, that Qatar was able to organize an exceptional edition of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at various levels, and stressed that everyone appreciates the efforts of the State of Qatar in hosting this tournament, in such a distinguished and impressive manner.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Minister of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfiquar Haider, the Head of the ILO Project Office in Qatar Max Tunon, the Secretary General and CEO for Employers in Bangladesh Farooq Ahmed, and the Representative of the International Trade Union Confederation Shakil Akhter Chowdhury.

The meeting was attended by Their Excellencies representatives of the three production parties of the International Labor Organization, including governments, employers and workers, from Asia and the Pacific and Arab countries, in addition to representatives of international organizations and civil society.
