Minister of Sports and Youth HE Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali has stressed that the slogan for this year’s National Day slogan ‘Our Unity Is the Source of Our Strength’ expresses the values and principles of the National Day represented in promoting loyalty, solidarity, unity and pride in the Qatari national identity. This, he added, comes by highlighting the values of the authentic Qatari society and introducing the younger generation to the values of loyalty and unity through events and highlighting the Qatari heritage and history.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Minister of Sports and Youth said this year’s motto stresses love and devotion for the homeland and work for its development. He added that this is what they seek to achieve in the ministry through their vision of ‘Active and Responsible Youth With Patriotic Sense’.
On the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finale coinciding with the celebration of the country’s National Day, the minister pointed out that assigning Qatar to organise a major tournament the size of the World Cup is an explicit international recognition of its ability to organise the tournament well, which requires enormous capabilities by the host country, not only in stadiums and accommodation, but also in its entire infrastructure, as well as the necessary level of services, security and safety.
He added that without doubt, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 can be considered one of the most important events that will leave a significant national legacy, stressing that Qatar would not have attained this international status and global appreciation had it not been for the efforts and sacrifices made by successive generations that joined forces to build a strong, modern state.
He praised the achievements made by the Ministry of Sports and Youth to create an athletic environment that motivates society to practise sports and empower youth to enhance their contributions in building the nation, based on the strategic goals for sports and youth within the Second National Development Strategy 2018- 2022.
In the youth sector, the minister pointed out that the ministry has implemented many important youth programmes and projects, including the completion of the National Youth Policy Document, which is expected to contribute to drawing up the country’s general policy and enhancing the role of youth in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
He affirmed that investing in young people and enabling them to engage in development processes is imperative, not optional, and that enhancing their participation requires work to provide a stimulating environment to mobilise motivation and highlight their capabilities.
The minister added that work has been done to amend the basic systems of the majority of youth centres to activate the role of public assemblies and the transition to the election system for the administration of youth centres, in addition to launching the Excellence Award in Youth Work to raise performance levels, create competition and improve quality in youth institutions and implementing the second version of the youth ambassador programme to enable Qatari youth to acquire the necessary skills to represent Qatar in international forums.
He pointed out that among the most prominent programmes undertaken by the ministry is the establishment of the Qatar Youth Council and the programme to organise the 14th Robotics Championship for schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and the Arab Robotics and AI Association, in addition to the inauguration of the new headquarters for Qatar Youth Hostels in September 2022, as well as the launch of the Get Ready programme in cooperation with the Qatar Career Development Center.
He added that the ministry launched ‘We All Have A Responsibility’ campaign, supported the fifth edition of Najah Qatari Festival, and launched youth entities at Al-Sailiya Club and Muaither and the Young Entrepreneurs Club in cooperation with a number of ministries and agencies in the country.
The minister stated that the preparation of the national sports policy, the development of the licensing system to practise activities and the launch of Sport Excellence Awards have been completed, as well as the implementation of a project to develop national cadres and the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Qatar Olympic Academy for five years, in addition to the implementation of the programme to encourage investment in the field of sports.
He pointed out that the ministry has attached great importance to community sports, which contributed to increasing the number of practitioners and participants.
He affirmed that the ministry continues to launch many important programmes that will enhance the role of Qatari youth in the youth and sports sectors.
