The Qatar Cricket Association, under the presidency of MA Shahid, hosted a coaching camp for junior boys in Pakistan International School to boost the game at the grassroots level.
The camp, according to QCA General Secretary Manzoor Ahmad, was a big success as 175 students, aged between 8 and 11, took part in each session.
Talking about the camp, which was hosted on December 6, Ahmad said,"The QCA contacted various expatriate schools in Qatar with playing facilities. We shortlisted some schools and then the decision to hold the first camp in Pakistan International School was taken. The remaining five schools will also conduct camps as per the schedule.
"The QCA provided its officials and qualified coaches whose sole aim was to create interest in the students about the game and physical activities. We're really delighted to announce that we achieved our goal and offered coaching to 175 boys."
Two groups were created and the students were given training, which covered various aspects like physical fitness, batting, bowling, throwing the ball, running between the wickets, wicket-keeping and match exposure. All the players displayed high level of interest and intensity during the training sessions.
The QCA team, which was involved in the camp, comprised following: Aminu Islam, Head of Schools coordination, Mohammad Asif Raza Junior camp organiser and Logistic manager, Aruna De Silva Head of Program, Abdul Salam (coach) and others.
Ahmad added that the school principal provided three sports teachers for smooth proceedings of the camp."The feedback that we got from the camp was very positive and the students enjoyed having qualified coaching from highly trained minds."
The QCA also gifted shirts to each student, besides arranging healthy refreshments for the participants. Aminul Islam and Mohammad Asif Raza presented memento to the school principal for supporting the event.
