Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) distributed football kits and associated gear to children of a South Korean child welfare centre in a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative titled "Pass the Joy” aimed at spreading the message of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
In a ceremony held at Myoungryun Child Welfare Centre, Mashel Attiq Al-Merekhi, General Manager of Qatargas’ Korea Liaison Office (KLO), said: "Qatargas is delighted to undertake this activity for children of Myoungryun Child Welfare Centre in Korea. As the host country of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, it gives all of us in Qatar great pleasure to pass the joy of this historic event to children in South Korea. This is particularly delightful as the South Korean national team is playing in this year’s World Cup.”
Al-Merekhi acknowledged Myoungryun’s proud history of a strong foster care system since 1951 to meet the developmental needs of vulnerable children and provide them with better opportunities to reach their full potential and help promote a successful transition into adulthood.
KLO representatives and officials from the Myungryun Child Welfare Centre attended the ceremony. The kits included footballs, sports shoes, team jerseys, goal posts and nets, in addition to various other amenities for the centre.
The centre was established in 1951 during the Korean Conflict between 1950 to 1953 to care for children and was later elevated as an authorised public welfare corporation in 1958.
Qatargas KLO has been undertaking various CSR initiatives in South Korea for the past 13 years mostly aimed at supporting children. In 2019, KLO undertook a campaign called "Warm Their Hearts” to assistance to children of the Sundukwon and Angel’s Haven orphanages, located in Seoul, supporting them with warm clothes and other winter accessories.
