Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has succeeded in bringing down the incidents of electricity failures by 20 percent in 2016, compared with last year, by implementing a rationing system for transport networks' stock spare parts and contracting for the delivery of diesel power generators for consumers during the repair of breakdowns.
Time Performance Index for resolving complaints of power cuts has improved by 12 percent, recording an average rate of 1:50 hour in comparison with 2:05 hour in 2015. The response index for complaints of power cuts has increased by 14 percent, with the average rate of 0:53 hours in 2016 compared with 1:03 hours in 2015.
Kahramaa, through its National Programme for Conservation & Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), has brought down the per capita consumption of water by 14 percent and electricity by 17 percent by the end of November 2016, and has succeeded in reducing the per capita electricity consumption by 121.76 (kW/h) and water consumption by 1.97 cubic metres.
Kahramaa marked the year 2016 with the launch of several major projects, including the mega reservoir (Package E) project due to be completed in 2019, Electricity Transmission Network Expansion Plan-Phase 12, and the 13th phase of electricity networks.
On the transport network, a programme to monitor the situation of all transfer stations and take corrective actions was completed with a net saving worth about QR28 million.
Situation monitoring programmes have been completed for 3,540 distribution stations and corrective actions were taken for 316 distribution stations with a net saving of about QR26 million.
Department of Water Networks Affairs completed the first phase of Ras Abu Fontas A3 (RAF A3) project with a capacity of 22 MIGD (million gallons per day) and full completion of the project with 36 MIGD capacity is expected by January 2017. The total capacity of the water tanks was also increased in 2016 by 77 million gallons while strategic reserves reached 1 336 million gallons.
About 650 km of water distribution and transmission networks have been implemented since the beginning of 2016 in different regions of the country to keep pace with urban development.
In 2016, water connections were made available to 5,000 subscribers along with the extension of 40,000 metres for about 1,080 current and future subscribers.
Kahramaa has been preparing a renewable energy policy in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, with a study of prices, investment costs, connectivity criteria and the diversification of Qatar's energy sources.
The year 2021 is of great importance for Kahramaa and its partners as it marks the end of the Corporation's Renewable Plan to provide services and infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
