Qatar has been ranked as the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for the 15th consecutive year, according to 2022 Global Peace Index.
Qatar is the only MENA country to be amongst the 25 most peaceful countries globally.
Out of 163 countries globally, Qatar hassecured 23rd spot— six places higher than the previous year— with a high score of 1.533 overall.
In MENA region, Qatar was followed by Kuwait (39 globally), Jordan (57), the United Arab Emirates (60) and Oman (64).
Yemen is the least peaceful country in the MENA region for the second consecutive year, a position that was held by Syria since 2014.Yemen is also the second least peaceful country globally, with recorded fall in the country’s peacefulness every year since 2018.
Iceland remains the most peaceful country, followed by New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Singapore and Japan.
The 2022 GPI finds that the world became less peaceful for the eleventh time in the last 14 years, with the average level of country peacefulness deteriorating by 0.3 per cent over the past year.
