The Qatari football team will depart to the Iraqi City of Basra on Wednesday to participate in the 25th Arab Gulf Cup which will be held from January 6 to 19, 2023.

The Qatari squad will undergo training exercises in Iraq on Thursday in preparation for a match against Kuwait at 7:15 pm on Friday at Al Kut Olympic Stadium in Group B that includes UAE and Bahrain.

The Qatari squad finished its trainings and tactical exercises on Tuesday in Doha at Aspire Academy’s venues.

Portuguese Coach Bruno Miguel Nogueira Pinheiro finished the technical aspects regarding the team formation that will play in Gulf 25 tournament competitions, as the team include a group of players under 23-years old, along with the footballers who played in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Meanwhile, Muhammed Muntari will miss the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup after the Qatar Football Association (QFA) named the final 23-man Al Annabi squad for the competition.

Muntari, who scored Qatar’s lone goal at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, will miss the event from January 6 to 19 due to a knee injury sustained during training.

The Al Duhail player was previously included to the updated 27-man preliminary squad, which omitted senior players Al Haydos, Akram Afif, Almoez Ali, Abdulaziz Hatem, Karim Boudiaf, Abdelkarim Hassan, Boualam Khoukhi, Bassam Al Rawi, Saad Al Sheeb, and Pedro Miguel.

Qatar will begin their campaign against Kuwait on January 7 before facing defending champions Bahrain on January 10.

On January 13, the three-time champions will play their final Group B encounter against the UAE.

Qatar will be coached by Portuguese Bruno Pinheiro, who replaced Spaniard Felix Sanchez, at the Gulf Cup.

Meanwhile, the organising committee of the tournament had earlier announced complete readiness to host the event which will take place at Basra Internationaland Al Mina stadiums.
