The number of building permits issued in Qatar in December 2022 decreased by 18 percent (527 permits), compared to (645 permits) issued in November 2022.
According to data released today by the Planning and Statistics Authority, the decrease in the number of building permits was noted in most of the municipalities: Al Rayyan (47 percent), Al Khor (37 percent), Al Shammal (25 percent), Al Doha (20 percent), Al Da’ayen (3 percent).
On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Um Slal (36 percent), Al Wakrah (16 percent), and Al Sheehaniya (6 percent).
According to their geographical distribution, the municipality of Al Wakrah comes at the top of the municipalities with 130 building permits, accounting for 25 percent of the total issued permits, while the municipality of Doha came in second place with 125 permits, 24 percent, followed by Al Rayyan municipality with 109 permits, 21 percent, then municipality of Al Da’ayen with 76 permits, 14 percent.
The rest of the municipalities like Umm Slal issued 38 permits (7 percent), Al Khor issued 19 permits (4 percent), Al Sheehaniya issued 18 permits (3 percent) and Al Shammal issued 12 permits(2 percent).
In terms of the type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitute 40 percent of 213 permits of the total building permits issued during the month of December 2022, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 56 percent (296 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3 percent (18 permits).
Villas top the new residential buildings permits list, accounting for 83 percent (120 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by apartments buildings permits by 11 percent (16 permits) and dwellings of housing loans permits by 5 percent (7 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings top the non-residential buildings permits with 51 percent (35 permits), followed by industrial buildings like workshops and factories with 31 percent (21 permits), then governmental buildings, mosques, and other non-residential buildings with 6 percent (4 permits) each.
Data on building completion certificates issued in December 2022, according to their geographical distribution, showed that Al Rayyan municipality comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued was 90 certificates, accounting for 27 percent of the total issued certificates, while the municipality of Al Da’ayen came in second place with 78 certificates (23 percent), followed by municipality of Al Wakrah with 74 certificates (22 percent), then Al Doha municipality with 48 certificates, accounting for14 percent.
The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal, 19 certificates (6 percent), Al Shammal, 10 certificates (3 percent), Al Khor and Al Sheehaniya, nine certificates (3 percent) each.
In terms of the type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitute 72 percent (243 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of December 2022, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 28 percent (94 certificates).
Data of new residential buildings completion certificates show that villas top the list, accounting for 85 percent (164 certificates) of all new residential buildings completion certificates, followed by apartments buildings certificates by 7 percent (14 certificates), then dwellings of housing loans by 4 percent (8 certificates).
On the other hand, commercial buildings come to the forefront of non-residential building completion certificates with 53 percent (27 certificates), followed by industrial buildings like workshops and factories with 27 percent (14 certificates), then other non-residential buildings with 10 percent (5 certificates).
Comparing the number of building completion certificates issued in December 2022 with those issued in the previous month, data showed a general decrease of 34 percent. This decrease was clearly noted in most of the municipalities: Al Doha (53 percent), Umm Slal (50 percent), Al Khor (40 percent), Al Da’ayen (39 percent), Al Rayyan (27 percent), Al Wakrah (14 percent) and Al Sheehanyia (10 percent). On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of Al Shammal (11 percent).
Building permits and building completion certificate data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator of the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
The release of this monthly data comes under joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between thetwo sides.
