Al Sadd Sports Club has announced on Saturday that it will take legal action against former player Abdelkarim Hassan, who recently signed with a Kuwaiti Premier League team.
According to a statement on the club’s website: “With reference to the news announced by the Kuwaiti professional football club, Al Jahra Sporting Club, to have signed with the Qatari player Abdul Karim Hassan, Al Sadd FC would like to clarify and state as follows. The aforesaid Player has unilaterally early terminated his employment contract with Al Sadd FC without any just cause and/or valid reason.
“Al Sadd FC has therefore already given mandate to their lawyers to take all the relevant legal actions against the player Abdul Karim Hassan and any third club for protecting their own image and interests,” the statement added.
Following an altercation with a fan on social media, the defender, who made 190 appearances for Al Sadd, had his contract terminated by the club and was handed an indefinite suspension by the Qatar Football Association (QFA).
According to reports, the former Asian Player of the Year responded to a SnapChat complaint about Qatar losing a World Cup game by posting, “Relax, do you think it’s war?”
Abdelkarim joined Al Sadd in 2010 and, at the age of 17, was the youngest player to appear in the 2011 AFC Champions League.
The following year, Al Sadd won the Champions League. In the 2012-13 Qatar Stars League, he was named Young Player of the Year.
In 2018, he was named Asian Player of the Year for his outstanding performances for both club and country. With Al Sadd, he won four Qatar Stars League titles and five Amir Cups.
