Bangladesh MHM School & College recently held its Annual Sports Meet 2023 on the school premises with much fanfare and enthusiasm.
The inauguration programme was graced by the presence of Charge d’Affaires of Bangladesh Embassy Dr Muhammad Mostafizur Rahman and Acting Chairman of the Governing Body of Bangladesh MHM School & College.
The events began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and the chief guest inaugurated the Annual Sports Day by releasing pigeons.
In his speech, the chief guest said, “Sports, particularly team sports, engender purposeful and meaningful social relationships. Therefore, winning or losing in sports or athletics is not at all important, but the happiness originating from the participation in sports or athletics is a highly cherished trophy.”
He urged the students to actively participate in games and sports so as to keep themselves fit to help build a healthy nation.
In his welcome speech, the director of the institution welcomed the distinguished guests and encouraged the students to actively participate in sports.
“Sports plays a great role to build our students’ career. It makes our students physically, mentally and emotionally fit,” said the director.
After the speeches, young marshals of Bangladesh School houses, holding their House Flags, displayed ‘March Past’.
Led by Scouts Leader Tahseen Bin Asad, the brightly dressed contingents offered deferential salute to their revered chief guest. Keeping the spirit of team work and camaraderie in sports and society, the Torch Bearer, School Sports Prefect Hamidul Islam, carried the torch which was lit amidst boisterous applause.
A solemn oath to uphold the dignity of the game and keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive throughout the meet was administered by Samia Rahamatullah, the college prefect.
With the inauguration ceremony, a series of events ensued. The audience witnessed heated athletic sessions with blaring applause that sparked off the vigour and verve of the vibrant athletes.
The event was highlighted with exciting activities, including different races, marble race, high jump, long jump, short put and many more events. The grounds reverberated with feverish enthusiasm as the tempo set in with the teachers and the students excitedly cheering the participants, voicing the spirit of oneness among all.
Young students took part in the funny and innovative races like chocolate race, frog race, skipping race, among others. The audience was filled in with awe and wonder by the difficult stunts performed by the students in the different events which require special skills.
During the prize distribution ceremony, the chief guest, Director Lieutenant Commodore (Retd) Md Anwar Khurshid, School Principal Md Zulfikar Azad and Vice-Principal A.T.M. Asadusjaman honoured the winners of the athletic events with medals and certificates.
