According to a Planning and Statistics Authority report, there was a divorce for practically every third marriage in Qatar in December.

While 304 couples got married, 106 pairs finalised their divorces in December.

Meanwhile, Qatar's population jumped to 2.91 million in December 2022 from 2.68 million in December 2021. Of the total current population, 2.1 million (72 percent) are males and 807,851 (28 percent) are females. The largest age group was adults aged 25 to 64 — at 2.1 million. Nearly 400,000 are below 15 years of age and 42,376 are above 65 years old. More than 300,000 are aged between 15 and 24.

The country's live births declined 3.6 percent from November to 2,376 — 1,227 males and 1,149 females — in December. There were 226 deaths — 157 males and 69 females.

December also saw 437 ships bring 6.18 million tonnes of cargo to Qatar. This is an improvement of 6.6 percent from a month ago and 10.4 percent from a year ago in terms of vessel movements. In total tonnage, the figure represents a surge of 22.9 percent month-on-month and 11.1 percent year-on-year.

As many as 3,284 driving licenses were issued in December — 546 to Qataris and 2,738 to expatriates — and 4,558 new vehicles were registered. This is a decline of 51.6 percent month-on-month and 36.8 percent year-on-year.

Of more than 12,000 accidents that took place in Qatar in December, 992 resulted in injuries. A large majority of them caused minor injuries but 5 percent of them inflicted severe wounds. Two percent were fatal, resulting in 19 deaths.

As for tourism, the total number of inbound visitors reached about 614 thousand, recording a monthly increase of 3.7% (compared to November 2022) and an annual increase of 317.6% (compared to December 2021). The highest number of visitors was from the Gulf Cooperation Council at 40%. As for visitors by type of port, the visitors via Air make up the highest percentage with 61% of the total number of visitors.
