Al Sadd emerged as the Qatar Cup basketball champions winning the final on Wednesday. Al Sadd beat Al Rayyan 100-76 (21-9; 32-20; 21-23; 26-24) in the summit clash played at the Al Rayyan Sports Club. Waverly Samuel Austin (23 points), Babacar Dieng (16pts), Faisal Nabil Abuissa (9pts), Mohamed Bechir Sadi (7pts) and Ahmad Saeid Mohamad (6pts) were the leading scorers for Al Sadd while Ibrahima Seck (12pts) and Ali Tawfiq Hussein (8pts) excelled for Al Rayyan. President of the Qatar Basketball Federation Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb honoured the winning and runners-up teams with the trophies and medals. Al Sadd’s player Babacar Dieng won the Best Player Award. He scored a a total of 850 points, recovering the ball 209 times and providing 105 assists. Al Gharafa club’s Mohamed Youssef was the award for three-pointer - scoring 79 shots. Mohamed Hashim of Al Ahli won the Best Promising Player Award with 276 points, while Al Sadd coach Vassilis Bratsiakos was named as the Best Coach. (TNN)
