National Sport Day (NSD) celebrations on Tuesday will mark the launch of a year-long programme of sporting activity, aiming to promote a culture of regular physical exercise for a healthy life among people of all ages.
The '365 Days Activity' programme is part of Qatar Sports For All Federation's broad agenda for 2017. The new programme includes an array of sporting events and competitions scheduled to be held monthly and periodically throughout the year targeting all segments of society, gender and age groups.
The Organising Committee for the National Sports Day has completed extensive planning and preparations for the 6th edition of the NSD with a wide range of celebrations and activities scheduled to be held at different locations across the country, said Abdul Rahman Muslim al Dosari, chairman of the Committee and president of the Qatar Sports For All Federation.
The NSD aims to promote practise of sport as part of a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness among the participants of the importance of sports in the lives of individuals as well as the community at large. Over 200 government and private institutions in the country have contacted the organising committee with intention of participating in the NSD activities, Dosari said.
"The organising committee has ensured that the NSD events and activities will cover all parts of the country. Besides, activities will be held in Doha at various places such as Doha Corniche, the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara and Aspire Park, in addition to all sports clubs and youth centres," Dosari added.
Highlighting the importance of sports in a healthy society, the Ministry of Culture and Sports will open its facilities for the public to practise. Dosari has pointed out that the NSD committee has allocated some places exclusively for women to practise sports on occasion of National Sport Day, while maintaining their privacy, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Aspire Foundation and Qatar Women's Sports Committee.
