An array of fitness and sports events has been planned across Qatar for the National Sport Day on Tuesday.
Qatar's biggest sporting facility Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is offering new attractions such as demonstration of 'Kendo', one of Japan's oldest martial arts in which participants use bamboo swords to fight. Visitors can try out this unique sport under the supervision of trained professionals.
Another must-watch event at AZF would be the presentation of 'Nordic Walking', an activity suitable for almost everyone and involves walking by using specially-designed poles. The activity is known to have originated in Scandinavian region of Europe.
Besides, there will be a host of outdoor activities such as the 3-km fun run, which will give participants an opportunity to see the whole complex. A special fun zone for families and children is created with a number of activities suitable for youngsters.
Qatar Foundation is also set to show its commitment towards active lifestyle through sports by encouraging visitors of all ages to visit Education City to participate in activities that include pony rides organised by Al Shaqab, special ladies fitness programmes as well as fun-filled children activities at Oxygen Park.
NSD activities at QF will kick off at 9 am with a walkathon that will pass through Oxygen Park. A 40km cycling event will also be held in Education City.
There will be games to challenge the power of mind, campaigns to promote habit of reading among children and so on.
The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara is also organising 80 astounding activities for visitors of all ages. Various activities including water sports, beach games and court games will give ample opportunity to visitors to participate and get physical with an underlying message to promote sports for good health.
Jogging competition for senior citizens, fitness examinations for general public as well as allocation of designated areas for women to exercise will be some of the highlights of this year's sporting extravaganza at Katara.
Besides, many ministries as well as private companies have come forward to sponsor the Sport Day in their effort to make Qatar a sporting pioneer not merely in the region but the world.
