Qatar participated in the 111th session of the Economic and Social Council at the level of senior officials, chaired by Mauritania, at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, with the participation of heads and members of Arab delegations, directors and representatives of joint Arab action organisations.

The delegation of Qatar in the work of the Council at the level of senior officials was headed by Deputy Undersecretary for Economic Affairs Dr. Saud Abdullah Al Attiyah.

The council’s agenda discussed a number of economic and social items, foremost of which is the economic and social file of the 32nd session of the Arab Leagues Summit for the current year in Saudi Arabia and preparations for the 5th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit to be held next November in Mauritania.

The agenda also included a report on the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and developments in the customs union, the draft statute of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, in addition to discussing an evaluation report of the effects of GAFTA on Arab regional integration, accurate dealing with the issuance of certificates of origin (CO) within the framework of the GAFTA.
