HH Sheikh Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, funded by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has received a Qatari medical delegation to perform complex cochlear implants surgeries, provide advanced training for the hospital’s medical and administrative staff, and prepare for the launch of new quality services.

Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Hamad Hospital Dr Khaled Abd El Hadi, who is also head of the delegation, said that the training and development visits sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) aimed at improving the performance of medical staff and enhancing the quality of services provided at HH Sheikh Hamad Hospital in the Gaza Strip. This will have a great impact on improving beneficiaries’ access to the health services needed at the right time and place, which contributes to alleviating their continuous suffering due to the weak capabilities and the continuous blockade that negatively affected the health sector and the provision of high-quality medical services and even affected the ability to train and improve the efficiency of local medical services in the Gaza Strip, he noted.

Dr Abd El Hadi added the visit programme focuses on five important axes to achieve sustainable development in rehabilitation specialties at HH Sheikh Hamad Hospital, with the aim of helping people with various disabilities complete their life path, develop all services and medical staff through education and training to reach high-quality service in line with international standards by twinning with HMC in all disciplines to keep pace with any progress in the field of health sciences.

Dr Khaled Abd El Hadi stated that the first axis is to conduct complex cochlear implants surgeries in cooperation with the Palestinian medical staff under the supervision and follow-up of Head of the Cochlear Implant Programme at HMC Dr Abd Al Salam Al Qahtani, and the second is to hold advanced training for the heads of medical and administrative departments under the supervision and training of HMC Deputy Chief of Quality Professor Nasser Al Naimi, in order to develop the quality of work in the hospital and qualify it to obtain international certificates in health quality management and to bring its services to the highest international standards.

As for the third axis, he said, it aims at preparing to launch a new and qualitative service aimed at reducing amputation and disability by supervising the preparation of a unit specialized in podiatric in the hospital, where specialists and workers will undergo intensive and qualitative training that includes protocols, methods and effective treatment methods according to international standards that qualify the staff to deal with all the different cases. It will include evaluation and follow-up of a group of cases under the supervision of Dr Talal Khader, senior consultant and head of Head of Podiatric Services at HMC, in addition to equipping the pain clinic with the latest devices specialized in treating chronic pain.

The fourth axis, he noted, targets achieving the highest degree of satisfaction among the beneficiaries of prosthetic limbs in order to facilitate their lives and achieve their effective integration in society through re-evaluation of complex cases, in addition to raising the efficiency of the staff working in the prosthetics department by providing specialized training under the supervision of Head of the Prosthetics Department at HMC Dr Amer Hawafzah, to include ways of optimal use of modern and advanced technologies in smart limbs and lower limbs.

The delegation included Managing Director and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hamad Hospital Dr Khaled Abd El Hadi, Cochlear Implant Programme at HMC Dr Abd Al Salam Al Qahtani, Deputy Chief of Quality, Centre for Patient Experience and Staff Engagement and Director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute at HMC Nasser Al Naimi, senior consultant and head of Head of Podiatric Services at HMC Dr Talal Khader, Senior Consultant in Urology Dr Abdullah Al Naimi, and Head of the Prosthetics Department at HMC Dr Amer Hawafzah.
