THE Emir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani patronised the graduation ceremony of the 39th batch of Qatar University's (QU) male students at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre in Doha on Wednesday.
The graduation ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani and a number of sheikhs and ministers, along with members of the university administration and faculty, parents and guests.
The ceremony began with recitation of verses of the Holy Quran and a documentary film on Qatar University (QU) history and achievements, and the evolution of its faculties, programmes, studies and researches that contributed to meet the community's needs and aspirations.
HH the Emir honoured the outstanding students on the occasion. Sixty-seven students achieved GPA 3.50 and above. QU President Dr Hassan Rashid al Derham handed the certificates to 529 graduate students of the 2016 batch.
Speaking on the occasion, the QU President said the University has achieved several accomplishments in the era of HH the Emir, and occupied a prominent position among the best universities worldwide.
Dr Derham noted that over the past 10 years, QU continued to advance its standing in the international arena among the top universities in the world and recently topped Round University's Rankings for the Arab world. He added:"Today, we celebrate your accomplishments and congratulate you on your graduation that marks the beginning of a new and exciting phase in your lives."
The ceremony also saw the graduation of the first cohorts of several academic programmes 6 BA Policy, Planning & Development College of Arts & Sciences; 1 BBA Economics College of Business & Economics; 1 B.Ed Secondary Education College of Education; and 1 MSc Clinical Pharmacy and Practice College of Pharmacy.
Graduate Mohammed Ahmed al Marri from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences delivered a speech during the ceremony in which he expressed his pride at QU which enjoys an international repute.
