The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ) organised a slew of sporting activities, in association with AMUAAQ Toastmasters Club, on the occasion of Qatar National Sport Day.
A host of activities, such as soccer matches, races, tug-of-war, sack-race, lemon and spoon race, badminton, cycling, Hoola hoop and kite flying, were organised for the participants. Kids under the age of six years enthusiastically participated in activities such as ‘pin the tail’ and ‘frog race’.
The events were organised in the beautiful Box Park at the Old Doha Port, under the supervision of the Managing Committee of AMUAAQ, presided by Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani.
The alumni of Aligarh Muslim University are actively engaged in promoting welfare, social, healthcare, educational and sports activities in Qatar and India.
A participant said: “It was a really fun- and fitness-based event where the participants realised the importance of games and sports in everyday life.”
President AMUAAQ Dr Nadeem Zafar Jilani said, “Promoting sports activities and including them in our daily life should be encouraged as we all know that a healthy body houses a healthy mind.”
Dr Nadeem appreciated the Managing Committee coordinators Mohammad Faisal Naseem, Mohammad Farman Khan and Dr Ashna Nusrat, along with heads of various sections Farrukh Ali Farooqi, Mamnoon Ahmad Bangash, Dr Syed Intekhab Alam, Dr Nayeem, Abad Khan, Faisal Abdulla, Ghazala Yasmeen, Saima Rafat and Syed Shahabuddin.
AMUAAQ Chairman Jawed Ahmad said, “Qatar is the first country in the world that celebrates Sport Day that reflects life’s positive values. Sport Day celebration brings communities closer together through sports, based on the principles of team building, inclusion and unity, participation, fitness and health.”
EP Abdur Rahman, chairman and founder of Care N Cure group, was the chief guest, while Sabith Saheer general secretary of ICBF, and Sabeen M K were the guests of honour.
Sabeena M K, District Club Growth director, Toastmasters, called on all AMU alumni to work towards the benefit of their alma mater and contribute more towards society and skill development.
Nihad Ali, Fuad Usman, Praveen and Khaja Nizamuddin attended the programme as special guests. Jarrar, Dr Imran, Dr Imtiyaz, Rizwan Ahmad, Shafqat Nabi, Ali Imran, Mohammed Mohmin Alvi, Asim, Shahid and other community leaders also participated in the events.
At the end of the programme, the winners and runners up were presented with the medals and goody bags.
