A Host of innovative ideas were incubated at Business BBQ 2017 organised by Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha (SSLSD) recently.
The event was organised for senior students pursuing commerce and was attended by several managerial level guests from top companies in Qatar.
It was a great evening graced by Bhathiya Bulumulla, CEO of Aitken Spence Plantations Management Ltd as chief guest and Dr Tejinder Singh, Founder of Q-Tickets as guest of honour.
With the theme 'Make It Happen', Business BBQ 2017 consisted of a business party that commenced at 4.30 pm and an official occasion of sharing business knowledge and ideas, which commenced at 5 pm. Sponsored by NAD Training and Mercure Grand Hotel, the event was held at Al Riyadh Hall, Mercure Grand Hotel.
Business BBQ is the brainchild of the Chairman of Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha Kumudu Fonseka."Business BBQ is where all business ideas are pitched and the essence of it is absorbed by the students" he said.
This year the event consisted of several interesting presentations which included an analysis of the Sri Lankan Budget (2017), taxation policies and an alliance between a clothing retailer in Qatar and ODEL (Sri Lanka).
The most thrilling session was the presentation by some of the advanced level students who came up with their business plan for an anti-hair- fall tea under their own company name called Mezton. This was the most impressive presentation of all and was also considered as a great idea by a tea section manager of a top supermarket in Qatar. In fact, when these students conducted an interview with this manager, he had told them that he would not have second thoughts about putting it on their shelves.
In support of this plan, another group of students (grade 9) came up with a business layout for Mezton Tea. To give equal chance for all presentations, the students were teamed up to compete amongst each other following which the best groups were chosen and given the chance to show their capabilities at the event. To add a bit of glamour to the event, two vivid dance performances, were held: an Indian dance and a Hip Hop routine which proved the versatility of the students at SSLSD. With the aim of moulding more successful entrepreneurs and business leaders the SSLSD Business BBQ will continue in years to come. According to Commerce Association of the school, the next Business BBQ will be more successful with inter-school competitions too.
