As part of Al Shaqab's mission to spread and enhance the awareness and understanding of equestrian sports among the Qatari youth, the CHI Al Shaqab's organising team invited students from a wide range of schools to witness top riders compete on the first day of the prestigious competition.
Students and teachers from Amna Al Jaidah School were seen cheering for their favourite national and international riders at the show jumping arena.
Accompanying the students, Wafa al Kubaisi, a teacher, said:"We are happy to be here today. It is an opportunity for our youngsters to learn about equestrian sports and horses. They might one day become top riders to represent Qatar on the international stage, in such interesting competitions."
Students from Ibn Seena School in Qatar were also present at the festival area to enjoy the array of interactive games and activities. School's psychiatrist Duha said:"This event is very important for our students' mental health. It is a chance for them to go out of their classes and do something different. It is a good outdoor activity and I encourage everyone to attend."
Children from Hayat Universal Bilingual School were also at the main show jumping arena, enjoying the pleasant weather and the event. Kate Neufeld, a teacher, said:"As part of my classes with the children, I usually encourage them to learn about horses and equestrian sports in general.
"It is part of the people's heritage here so it is important for them to participate in such events," she added.
The CHI Al Shaqab 2017 kicked off today and will continue until March. The annual event is one of the most prestigious of its kind in the world. Tickets can be purchased from www.q-tickets.com or at the venue.
