Manateq, Qatar's leading developer and operator of specialised economic zones (SEZs), has recently finalised deals with logistics firms DHL and FedEx, which gives them access to operate from Manteq's SEZs, according to a senior official of the company.
Business Analyst at Manateq, Nermeen Abd al Aziz, said,"Manateq is already building units for both companies in Ras Bufontas to open its first operational branches."
Once the long awaited new law of Manateq gets the final approval, the deal would allow both companies to build large storage and distribution units to facilitate their work in Qatar, Nermeen said. The companies can later expand to other GCC countries once the GCC railway network is completed, she added.
"Ras Bufontas is located adjacent to Doha's new Hamad International Airport, and is considered an ideal location for businesses requiring international connectivity," Nermeen pointed out.
Ras Bufontas is set to become an advanced technology and logistics hub in the region, attracting regional and global business, trade, and investment, thereby contributing to Qatar's vision of becoming a 'smart nation'.
"The zone would provide a vibrant and inspiring workplace. It has a long-lasting, high-quality, and low-maintenance design and includes service hubs, public parks, labour accommodation, utilities access, versatile office and retail space, and also Manateq headquarters," she said.
Nermeen said Manateq has started to receive several applications from prominent international companies to invest in SEZs, adding that companies interested to invest in special zones will go through evaluation processes to check their business plans and financial stability.
Manateq CEO, Fahad Rashid al Kaabi, had recently announced that Manateq is close to finalising deals with some of the biggest international companies interested in investing in SEZs.
Manateq is waiting for Qatar to pass a law that would grant 100 percent ownership for international companies in Manateq special economic zones, which is expected to provide market stability and growth potential in the future.
Manateq has three special zones under its wing, which are geared to facilitate private sector growth and promote manufacturing in downstream heavy and light industries.
The zones include the Ras Bufontas (4.01sq km), Um Alhoul (33.52sq km), which broke ground in March 2015, and Al Karaana (48sq km), the largest of the three, which is expected to provide opportunities to host specialised industries and logistics zone.
"With the Gulf region and beyond on the doorstep, the world-class infrastructure at Ras Bufontas will help your business to grow both within and outside of Qatar," Kaabi said....
