Tribune News NetworkDohaA training webinar for guide teachers mentoring science projects for National Children Science Congress was organised on May 27 by the Science India Forum under the patronage of the Indian Embassy in Qatar.During the opening session, the president of SIF Qatar elaborated the importance of the National Children Science Congress (NCSC). NCSC is an ideal and innovative programme for children that seeks to inspire, empower and expand their minds in the field of scientific research. It is guided by the spirit and mandate of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) of UNESCO, Right to Education (RTE, 2009) and National Curriculum Framework (NCF, 2005). SIF Qatar has been conducting this programme since 2015 based on various themes and sub-themes. The training webinar was attended by more than 250 teachers across the Gulf region namely Qatar, KSA, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. They will guide students in their science projects in their respective schools and communities.The webinar was conducted by eminent academician Dr Hemant Pande, a master trainer and mentor for various competitive exams like NCSC, Inspire, IRIS, ISEF, Olympiads, NTSE etc. He shared his experiences on how a simple idea gets converted into a science project and finally into a product. He said teachers have a great role in encouraging students to develop an idea and help them to turn into a big project and eventually to a product. Dr Hemant shared some interesting projects taken up by his students that were recognised both at the national and international levels. Dr. Pande emphasised that guide teacher should help students form an idea all by themselves and then they should help them to develop that idea further into science project. He also advised on how to monitor the project effectively with internal assessment and to make it a winning project.The special guests on the occasion were Hassan Kunhi, director of Ideal Indian School and Syed Shaukat Ali its principal. They enlightened the audience with their inspiring talk on science projects. SIF Qatar thanked all the professionals, teachers, mentors, and attendees for making this event very successful.
