Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, the National Cyber Security Agency has announced the date of the launch ceremony of ‘Cyber Security Educational Curriculum’ on March 6.
It is a strategic partnership between the Agency and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and aims to introduce society to the concept of digital citizenship.
The ‘Cyber Security Educational Curriculum’ project aims to achieve a number of goals, mainly to introduce society in general and children and youth in particular to the concept of digital citizenship which involves responsible, ethical and safe use of information and communication technology. It also aims at raising awareness about the dangers of the internet, training all segments of society in the basics for personal data protection as well as raising the awareness level of general concepts related to cyber security and digital safety thus preparing a future generation capable of dealing efficiently and safely with technological tools.
In this regard, Dalal Abdulaziz Al Aqeedi- National Cyber Excellence Department Manager said that the National Cyber Security Agency seeks to build a safe and digitally empowered local community through several initiatives and projects aimed at raising the level of digital safety.
She added that the “Cyber Security Educational Curriculum” project is considered one of the most important partnerships and projects that target school students, disabled students, teachers and parents and is presented in a smooth and enjoyable way inspired by the Qatari identity.
She pointed out that the National Cyber Security Agency also paid attention to the extracurricular activities and its complementary role in the educational process.
The “Cyber Echo” initiative was launched to generate cyber educational content through site visits to private and governmental schools, conducting workshops that include educational presentations, competitions, activities and various applications designed within the best practices and international references.
For her part, Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili, Assistant Undersecretary for Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education said: “The Cyber security educational Curriculum is a step in the right direction to ensure that students are aware of the risks associated with the internet”.
“Living in an era where everyone is increasingly benefiting from technological resources, the key to keeping these resources and their users safe is to make cyber security a core subject in the educational plans”.
Al Ruwaili hoped that this project will contribute to spreading the required awareness and will support the Ministry’s curriculum with innovative and reliable content.“We look forward to enriching and developing it continuously as improving students’ abilities in information security requires more than just providing them with the information contained in books. It also requires that they are able to understand and apply advice and have the motivation and desire to do so.”
Al Ruwaili further said that the launch of the cyber security educational curriculum in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the National Cyber Security Agency will constitute an essential part of the comprehensive development of the educational system in all its fields.
It is noteworthy that the National Cyber Security Agency seeks to build a digitally safe and technologically empowered local community in the State of Qatar and implements initiatives and projects aimed at spreading awareness of the basics of cyber security and promoting a culture of personal protection against cyber-attacks.
One of these projects is the “Cyber Security Educational Curricula” which is the first initiative of its kind in the region targeting school students, teachers and parents and is presented in a smooth and enjoyable way to contribute to raising the maturity level on cyber risks in all its forms.
