ON March 20 (Monday), the length of day and night will be approximately equal all over the world as the 'Vernal Equinox' phenomenon happens at 1:29pm local Doha time, says astronomer Dr Beshir Marzouk.
According to Marzouk, vernal equinox is an important phenomenon as it is indicative of climatic changes."Besides, on this day we can observe the exact positions of sunrise and sunset over all countries on eastern and western horizons respectively," Dr Marzouk said in a statement.
On March 20, the length of day and night in Qatar will be 12 hours and 7 minutes and 11 hours and 53 minutes respectively. The sunrise and sunset will take place in Doha at 5:38 am and 5:45pm respectively.
There are two reasons for the occurrence of vernal equinox: the first is the earth's rotation on its orbit around the sun every 365.25 days approximately (length of year), the second is tilting of earth's axis over its orbit plane by 23.5 degrees.
