Pearling Season International (PSI) School hosted an International Day celebration recently.
With nearly 700 people in attendance, students and parents from various countries joined the celebrations.
The school premises saw around 54 nationalities celebrating the grand unity in identity and diversity.
The PSI International Day is the grand finale of Week Without Walls (WWW) - a week of school that is specifically designated to education outside the classroom.
According to PSI Head Teacher Delores Thompson, the celebration helps students to understand the world and their role in it as well as reinforce many of the personal goals taught throughout the IPC Curriculum, such as cooperation, resilience, communication and internationalism.
The festival comprised 14 national and regional booths with a variety of cuisines and cultural displays. The booths represented various countries and regions, showcasing national customs, traditions, history, iconic facts, clothing, food and arts.
The event also featured an international range of song and dance performances by its multinational student volunteers as well as other activities such as henna designs, chopstick challenge, calligraphy and other arts and craft options.
After indulging in the choicest of culinary delicacies from many countries around the world, children played games, enjoyed various activities prepared by the parents and staff. The festival included an exhibition of authentic delicacies and cultures of various countries.
Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar HE Muhammad Basri Sidehabi described the festival as an event that promoted world culture and culinary, especially that of Indonesia.
A coordinator from the Indonesian booth, Ayuda, said that their national booth was supported by the embassy, showcasing the rich Indonesian culinary and colourful attire displays.
Another coordinator for culinary, Lidwina said that the booth provided complimentary testers of delicious cuisine from tropical Indonesia, showed its tourism promotion as well as its traditional music.
"The booth also prepared healthy and delicious soy bean foods and quizzes with prizes for students who gave the right answers," said Henny, who contributed to the celebration.
Esther, a parent, said that she was proud to promote Indonesia in Qatar.
According to the Indonesian Embassy's Minister Counsellor Boy Dharmawan, who is also a parent in the school, the festival did not serve only as a learning process for the students but also as the perfect way to display culture and traditional cuisine.
Soraya al Yahya, another parent, said:"We wish the students could visit Indonesia in this summer vacation to have a look at some of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
