Aiming to enhance investment opportunities between Qatari businessmen and South Australian (SA) companies, Minister for Investment and Trade in the Government of South Australia Martin Hamilton-Smith, has called for holding an economic forum.
He expressed his opinion during a meeting with Qatar Chamber offcials in Doha on Saturday. Smith also reviewed investment opportunities in South Australia and means of economic cooperation and partnerships with Qatari businessmen.
Around two hours from Sydney, South Australia enjoys a unique location and is well connected by road, rail, sea and air transport networks, he noted.
South Australia encourages foreign investment and grants attractive facilities to investors seeking new business opportunities, especially in the food and beverage, mining, energy, education, and health and tourism sectors, Smith said. South Australia has seen remarkable growth in the agriculture and livestock sectors over the past two decades, the minister noted.
He said the food and beverage industry has played a key role in enhancing South Australia's economic growth. Fresh and frozen food products are exported to more than 100 countries around the world, Smith added.
Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tawar expressed Qatari businessmen's keenness to be acquainted with economic development in South Australia. He also shed light on the investment opportunities in Qatar.
He stressed the efforts being exerted to enhance the partnership between public and private sectors, and thanked Qatari government's determination to develop the private sector and increase its contribution to the country's GDP.
