Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Salih Al Khulaifi has said that Qatar is a reliable partner and successful mediator with the recognition of the international community.
This came in the speech Al Khulaifi delivered during the fifth edition of the Global Security Forum (GSF), which is held in Doha under the theme 'Reshaping the Global Order: Conflicts, Crises and Cooperation.'
Al Khulaifi reviewed Qatar's experience in mediation and conflict resolution, stressing the country's firm belief in mediation as a means of dispute resolution.
In this regard, he pointed out Qatar's long experience in this field, which granted the country the confidence of the international community and its recognition of the distinction of its experience in mediation after its recognized successes in putting an end to many regional conflicts.
He listed Qatar's diplomatic successes in several files, pointing out in this regard Qatar's contribution to the conclusion of a truce in Yemen 2008-2010, in addition to the country's hosting of the Lebanese national dialogue, and its assistance to the governments of Djibouti and Eritrea to conclude a peace agreement to settle the border dispute between them and secure the release of prisoners.
He also noted Qatar's success in the Darfur file through the signing of the Doha Document for peace in the region, its contribution to facilitating the peace agreement between the transitional government in Sudan and the armed movements signed in the Republic of South Sudan, and its hosting of the talks between the United States and the Taliban that concluded with the signing of the peace agreement by the two parties.
Qatar also hosted the negotiations between the Chadian parties, which culminated in the signing of the Doha Peace Agreement by the Chadian parties with the participation of Politico-Military Movements in Chadian National, Inclusive, and Sovereign Dialogue in Chad, and helped Somalia and Kenya to resume their diplomatic relations, he added.
He pointed out that the foreign policy of Qatar relies on strong bilateral and multilateral alliances, and finding solutions to disputes through dialogue and mediation while respecting the sovereign rights of all countries.
The minister concluded his speech by calling on the international community to strengthen strong regulatory frameworks that favor mediation in international relations and work to address regional conflicts and disputes with wisdom and patience, with the aim of advancing the sustainability of international peace and security.
