Qatar’s efforts to address climate change and protect the environment, as proposed in Qatar National Vision 2023, have encouraged all to participate in the cause and make the country greener and pollution-free. The Ministry of Municipality and Environment recently launched the 7th edition of its ‘Farm Your Country’ programme in partnership with Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation.
The purpose of the initiative is to spread awareness among the youth of the importance of healthy environment and the need to protect and preserve it.
In this context, Pakistan International School-Qatar (PIS-Q) carried out a flower plantation activity at its premises with a purpose to beautify the grounds and inform the students, from a very young age, about the role of plants in purifying the environment and the necessity of planting as many as plants possible.
The school had also participated in the government’s ‘Plant Million Tree’ initiative last year by planting a variety of plants and trees in its premises and earned praise from Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani.
This year, the school built upon the previous groundwork and planted flowers in variegated shades to welcome spring in its full glory. The initiative came in the light of the ‘Farm Your Country’ campaign which encourages the youth to learn about the importance of agriculture in managing the environment and combating the ongoing climatic challenges.
Young learners from the school’s Primary Wing joined hands with the teachers and administrative staff to plant 100 flowers in different places inside the school. They were thrilled to see such a colourful display of flowers and enthusiastically participated in planting them. Afterwards, they were told about the benefits of such activities and the role of greenery in making the country pollution-free.
PISQ Principal Nargis Raza Otho appreciated the young members of the school and praised them for their active participation in the activity. She pledged that the school would continue to participate in the State of Qatar’s progressive initiatives and campaigns as part of a growing expat community.
