Three more entities have joined a boycott movement against French products, which started in protest against the “anti-Islam” attitude in France following the killing a teacher who showed his class caricatures of Prophet Muhammad.
The Approved Market in Aspire Zone, the Khulud Pharmacy and Le Tran Blue Restaurant are the latest firms that have announced withdrawal of French products from their respective concerns.
"Al Rayan Restaurant Management Company's Le Tran Blue Restaurant, which operates under a contractual relationship with a British company, will replace all French products, in addition to stopping the serving of certain dishes containing these products until further notice," the group said in a tweet on Sunday.
"In light of recent events, we are removing all products made in France from our shelves at the Approved Market Qatar," it said on Twitter.
Earlier this week, Qatar Shopping Complex hypermarket, Souq Al Baladi and the Family Food Centre, in separate statements, said they would pull all French products from their shelves. Delivery apps Snoonu and QTamween have also joined the movement by de-listing French products.
On Friday, Qatari supermarket chain Al Meera announced withdrawal of French products from all its branches. The same day also saw Qatar University announcing the indefinite postponement of a French Cultural Week scheduled to be held on the campus.
Hashtags on boycotting French products have gone viral in the Arab world, as social media users condemned the "anti-Islam" attitude in the European country following the killing a teacher who showed his class caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
Some offensive statements made by French President Emmanuel Macron against Islam and Muslims, and his support for the re-publication of the caricature during the memorial service for the murdered teacher, Samuel Bate, has also drawn sharp criticism in the Arab world.
