The American School of Doha (ASD) officially opened its High School Greenhouse and recognised Jassim & Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundations (JHJ) for their financial contributions to make the greenhouse possible.
In 2013 the JHJ Foundation made a donation of QR700,000 to the American School of Doha for the construction of a new greenhouse to aid in the development of the High School Environmental Science and Biology units and provide an exclusive facility to house plants for student projects.
Environmental Science students are currently transplanting their vegetable seedlings from the greenhouse to their outdoor gardens, while APES students are using the greenhouse to do their experiments on soil structure and temperature. AP Biology students are investigating the effects of various environmentsfactors on plant transpiration rate using marigold flowers. This is a 3-week project and student analysis of the data will include regression analysis and discrete variable bar graphing. The greenhouse provides a wonderfully controlled environment for this excellent research.
Jassim & Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundations representative Sheikha Noor al Subaie attended the ribbon-cutting."We are delighted to have the greenhouse for our programmes and students," stated ASD Director Dr Tom Hawkins."We cannot thank Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al Thani, Sheikha Noor al Subaie and the Jassim & Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundations enough for this opportunity. Few schools have such a facility in which to learn and grow, and with our instructor's expertise, we feel we can use the facility in the best way possible. ASD appreciates the significant contribution and support from the Jassim & Hamad Bin Jassim Charitable Foundations."
