In the attendance of H.E. the President of Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) launched its new strategy for the 2023-2030 sports term under the slogan - Vision, History & Achievement - at Marsa Malaz Kempinski hotel Doha on Sunday.

Sunday’s launch ceremony was also attended by the QOC First Vice-President HE Mohamed bin Yousef Al Mana, the QOC Second Vice-President H.E. Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, the QOC Secretary-General H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, and Presidents of National Sport Federations and Clubs in Qatar.

The Qatar Olympic Committee has launched the promising strategy 2023-2030 with a purpose of achieving three key objectives: EnsuringSport Excellence, boosting Olympic Culture and Enhancing Sport Sustainable Development.

In an effort to make theseobjectivesmoreapplicable, the QOC will keep encouraging all categoriesof society to be at the heart ofthe Olympic movement,supportthemto exercisesports andadopt a healthy lifestyle day in day out. The QOC will push forward this approach to build up a number of elite Qatari sport teams with purpose ofensuringthat Qatar supremacy is made in all sport fields, including training, administration and other technical aspects.

The QOCwill keep hosting the major sport tournaments with purpose of enhancing thesport tourism, national economy andbettering the investment in thesport legacy that being gainedfrom the major tournaments that the country hosted over the recent period.

QOC’s toppriority in this strategy is to preparebetter national teams and promising age groupsteams , that with purpose of buildingan strategic frame, setting up plans that couldhelp improving athletesperformance, taking care of them,providing their needs,following their health, career and education. In the top of that, this strategywillbe assessingthe athletes performance to ensurethat theirperiodical goals and key results are met.

The QOCgivesa profound concern to women sport in Qatar. It provides women equal chance with mento be an integral part of the sport activities and participate in major tournaments. Most notably, the QOC’s efforts to increase Qatari women participation in different sportswere paid off over the recent years, that after they participated in the last three Olympics, London 2012,Rio De Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Since its foundation on March 14, 1979, the QOC has played an important role in raising sports awareness in nation and developing Olympic movement in accordance with principles of Olympic Charter and as a result, the Qatari sports movement has reached new heights over the last 43 years and achieved a huge number of achievements including the gold medal of Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim at 2022 World Athletics Championships to become the first athlete to win three straight men’s high jump gold medals. Moreover, Qatar’s Fares Ibrahim clinched one gold medal and one silver medal at 2022 World Weightlifting Championships.

Qatar also made history at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics winning two gold medals and a bronze medal.

Qatar’s achievements were not limited to sports side, but the Qatari sports officials were elected to assume leading positions at international sports institutions as the QOC President H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani was elected as the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Senior Vice President at the XXVI ANOC General Assembly 2022 held in Seoul last October.

Moreover, the QOC President H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar Foundation (QF) Vice-Chairperson and CEO H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani and QOC Secretary-General H.E. Jassim Rashid Al Buenain have been appointed to key roles on IOC Commissions.

H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani and H.E. Jassim Rashid Al Buenain were appointed to the IOC’s Olympism 365 Commission, Olympic Education Commission and Olympic Programme Commission respectively.

The QOC also hosted the training camp of the Refugee Olympic Team ahead of their participation in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, held from July 23 to August 08, 2021. The QOC also hosted a number of meetings between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and representatives of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee and the General Directorate of physical Education and Sport of Afghanistan.

In recognition of its achievements, the QOC was bestowed the National Olympic Committees’ (NOC) Breakthrough Award by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).

The QOC President H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani received the award at the ANOC Awards 2021 held on the sidelines of the ANOC General Assembly in Crete, Greece.

During the ceremony, the QOC honoured distinguished employees and graduates of different training programmes.
