Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting confirmed on Tuesday he will miss upcoming Cameroon internationals due to back problems that could also endanger his participation in next week’s Bundesliga topper against Borussia Dortmund.
“Unfortunately I have to cancel the upcoming national team games due to back problems,” Choupo-Moting said on Instagram.
“I will work hard to be back on the field as soon as possible.”
Choupo-Moting’s Cameroon absence had been expected after he missed Bayern’s last game on the weekend at Bayer Leverkusen owing to the injury.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann said ahead of the Leverkusen game that Choupo-Moting had “big problems” with his back and was unable to train.
Bayern lost the game 2-1 and with it the league lead to Dortmund ahead of the April 1 showdown in Munich.
The champions will hope to have Choupo-Moting back for the big game as they are already set to be without Jamal Musiala who left the German national team camp with a thigh muscle fibre tear.
Musiala with 11 goals and Choupo-Moting with 10 are Bayern’s top Bundesliga scorers this season.
