American Academy School ranked third in the recently concluded Girls English Qatar Preparatory Schools Debate League (Qpsdl) 2015-16 Open Category. About 17 schools in Qatar participated in the league.
The school won 11 rounds out of 16 and team member Hala Osama was chosen as one of the Top Ten Speakers.
"We consider it a huge accomplishment of the students, of the coaches who took their time to be with the students during the tournament and of the school, considering that all our students were new to debating," said AAS Debate Team Coordinator and Head Emmanuel Olatunde.
The AAS Preparatory Debate Team which include Hala Osama, Nada Midhat, Michaela Atupan, Yomna Wael, Raveen Gillani, Farah Jamal, Jana Beheiry, Sarah Kamal, Taleen Mahmoud, Ahmad Marouf, Majd Taweel, Mohammad Avincena, Abdullah Barak, is one of the projects of AAS English Department headed by Olatunde."Our students have huge hearts for learning and to master new challenges," he said."It is a joy to see our students grow strong intellectually and perform exceptional tasks independently. The students along with their coaches Irene Rose O Somo and Michael Oshunremi really gave their best and worked hard for this."
The awards' ceremony attended by representatives from several schools, was held at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. The first and second places were awarded to Pakistani Education Centre and Doha Modern Indian School respectively.
Other schools that participated in this season's league include Al Jazeera Academy, Birla Public School, Cambridge International, The Cambridge School, Newton International Academy, The Cambridge School, Mesaieed International School, Arqam Academy Prep, The Lebanese School of Qatar, De Bakey High School, Mozah Bint Mohammed IPSG, DeBakey High School.
