The Education Above All Foundation (EAA) and the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) hosted a celebratory Iftar for beneficiaries of the Qatar Scholarship programme.

The ceremony welcomed 39 new scholarship recipients, congratulated 18 graduates and celebrated 25 students for their excellence in academic performance for the 2022-2023 academic year.

EAA was honoured to welcome representatives from partner organisations, universities and embassies, including Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Yemen’s Minister of Education Tariq Al Akbari, EAA’s CEO Fahad Al Sulaiti and President of the University of Doha for Science and Technology Dr Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi.

The event drew over 200 attendees, including students and their families, faculty of local universities including Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Oryx University in partnership with Liverpool, Lusail University and the Global Studies Institute, and representatives from the embassies of Yemen, Palestine, Sudan and Jordan.

Youth between the ages of 17 and 25 who have spent the majority of their formative years in Qatar are targeted by the Qatar Scholarship Programme (QSQ), which aims to give them access to higher education.

The QSQ is a need-based scholarship provided to meritorious expatriate children in Qatar by EAA through its Al Fakhoora programme. The recipients are given financial assistance to attend prestigious universities in the nation, such as Qatar University, Al Rayyan International University College, University of Doha for Science and Technology and University of Calgary in Qatar, which are already partners.

The event also saw the announcement of new relationships with Lusail University, Global Studies, Oryx University in conjunction with Liverpool, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).

The EAA’s programme offers scholarships for international students to complete their degrees at nine local partner universities with the goal of assisting under privilege families in Qatar. EAA also partners with Silatech to link graduates to employment. The programme is implemented by EAA and made possible with the support of the Endowment Account for Scientific and Cultural Development in the General Department of Endowments - Awqaf.

In his speech, Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Thani explained the religious and historical role of the endowment in supporting scholars, as well as providing educational opportunities for students, adding that the Endowment Bank for Scientific and Cultural Development, in cooperation with the Education Above All Foundation and partner universities, congratulates the Qatar Scholarship beneficiaries.

Talal Al Hothal, director of the programme, said: “EAA supports millions of children and young people worldwide to ensure they have access to safe and quality education. Today’s ceremony underlines this commitment and solidifies the promise our Qatar Scholarship Programme makes to the next generation of leaders and change makers in Qatar. We thank Awqaf for their support in making this possible, and providing life-changing opportunities to deserving youth to pursue successful and rewarding careers and strengthening their communities.”
