Qatar Petroleum (QP), along with its subsidiaries Qatargas, RasGas and Nakilat, is taking part in the Gastech 2017 Conference and Exhibition that began in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Held under the theme, advancing the role for gas and LNG in the global energy mix, Gastech features a large number of companies in the global gas and LNG industry, and has attracted thousands of professionals representing the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the industry.
The four-day event, which will conclude on April 7, provides a platform for all the participants to learn about the latest technical innovations in the industry and to discuss the major issues currently affecting the international gas and LNG market.
The QP pavilion at the Gastech 2017 exhibition features the corporation's extensive oil and gas operations as well as the LNG production activities of Qatargas and RasGas.
The pavilion also highlights Nakilat's role as the transportation link in Qatar's LNG supply chain, and underscores the contribution of QP's industrial cities for the continued development of many gas-based industries in Qatar.
Qatargas CEO Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al Thani was one of the high-profile panellists during a plenary session on how gas suppliers are adapting to the changing global market.
The fact that the event is being held in Japan is of particular significance to Qatar, as Japanese companies were Qatar's first customers of its LNG business.
Qatar recently marked the 20th anniversary of its first-ever LNG delivery to Japan, which took place on January 10, 1997.
Since then, Qatar has safely and successfully delivered over 2,500 LNG cargoes to Japanese buyers, a testament to Qatar's long-term commitment in helping meet Japan's rising energy requirements. First held in 1972 and now on its 29th edition, the Gastech Conference and Exhibition is regarded as the world's leading gas and LNG event, as it consistently features all the biggest companies and experts in the industry.
