The Friendship & Unity Basketball League (FUBL) kicked off its tournament titled 'FUBL Qatar UAE Exchange Cup 2017', at the Aject Qatar basketball court in Sailiyah Area recently.
FUBL Chairman Manuel V Camato formally opened the tournament in the presence of Qatar UAE Exchange representative Jumel Mescallado, UNO Qatar leader Clifford Martinez and Samahang Zambalenyo Qatar (SZQ) Chairman Rey Arquilado.
Before the opening game of the league, special awards were handed over.
Team Steel of Defender bagged the Best Team Uniform award, while its sister team, Iron of Defender, clinched the Best Muse.
Fourteen teams will be vying for the championship title in the tournament. Teams in Bracket A are Aject Diablo, Iron of Defender, Lead Warriors, Brave Hawk Master Engineering, Thunder of Defender, Hyundai Warriors and Triskelion De Oragon. Bracket B comprises Aject Tunnelling, Steel of Defender, Black Stallion Battalion, Al Sailiyah Sports Club, Thunder Eagle, Black Stallion Destroyer and Shelter Qatar.
Teams Black Stallion Destroyer and Steel of Defender faced off in the opening match. The thriller wrapped up with a victory for Destroyer and the score reading 45-44.
The leadership of FUBL expressed appreciation for Aject Qatar for the use of the venue and its other supporters including Reformed & United Guardians Brotherhood International Inc. (Rugbii) Lightning of Defender, Rugbii Princess of Defender Chapter and the Rugbii chapters.
The management of the league also includes Jedd San Juan, Jamz Espera, Julie Tablang, Jose Morta, Eithanz Llusala, Zeth Sanchez, Rey Villacentino and Alberto Penuela. The volunteers are from the group of Lightning of Defender chapter.
