Qatar's athletes continued their impressive performance in the GCC Athletics Championship claiming a total of 11 medals as the prestigious event came to an end in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
Qatari athletes won a total of 11 medals including 4 gold, one silver and 6 bronze to finish in third place in the overall standings behind Bahrain, the runners up, and Kuwait the first-place winner.
Qatar's Mutaz Barsham dominated the high jump event by winning the men's gold medal and thereby booked a spot at the upcoming IAAF World Championships London. His teammate Hamdy al Amin clinched the silver medal in the same event.
In the men's hammer event, Ashraf Saifi and his brother Ahmed Saifi won the gold and bronze medals for Qatar.
Mabrook Saleh also made Qatar proud by claiming the gold medal in the 10,000m walk while his teammate Hussain al Mothana clinched the bronze medal.
Qatar Athletics Federation President Dr Thani Abdulrahman al Kuwari lauded the athletes achievements.
"We are really happy with these great results. It is just the beginning of greater things to come. We will continue to maintain our excellence in sports," he said.
Qatar athletes competed in several classes at the championship including 100m, 200m, 400m and 1500m, 800m, 1500m 400m obstacles, javelin throw, triple jump, discus throw and high jump.
