Sponsored by City Exchange, White Oceanic and Nice Water Company, the Third Intra Academy Cricket Tournament of Stallions Cricket Academy concluded recently.
While the tournament was conducted for under-15 and under-13 players of the academy, the Qatar National Woman's team was also invited to take part.
A total of eight teams contested in the tournament. The tournament was played from March 18 to April 8 and all matches were played at Qatar Cricket Association Grounds.
The awards ceremony was held with a host of dignitaries from Qatar Cricket Association and the sponsors.
While there were many exceptional performances by the players, Kalith Amarasinghe was adjudged the Under-16 best player of the tournament.
Uday Joshi was declared best batsman, while Azam Zaheed and Yasmin Gulkhan were declared best fi elder and best bowler in the under-15 category respectively.
In the under-13 category Daniyal Bengali was declared the best player of the tournament. Siddharth Dhadwal was adjudged best fielder while Dewansh Vaghela bagged the best bowler trophy. Arin Sai won the award for the most committed player.
The guest of honour for the finals was former Sri Lankan Test player Tharanga Paranavitana, who awarded the champions trophy to the winners.
Commenting on the tournament head coach of Stallions Sidath Tennakoon said,"We are thrilled at the level of performance shown by the young players. Our aim in organising such tournaments is to provide much needed playing experience to our youngsters. We believe that through such tournaments the players are able to perform to the best of their abilities and improve their skills."
Stallions Sports Services is a leading sports academy in Doha, affiliated to the Qatar Cricket Association.
The academy currently provides coaching in cricket, basketball and badminton for juniors from the age of 6 years and above through a well qualified and experienced team of coaches.
The academy has already completed several Cricket tours to England, Sri Lanka and UAE in the past three years. The tour to Australia is already scheduled for July 2017.
The academy was launched with the purpose of developing the game of cricket in Qatar, and to provide opportunities to aspiring young cricketers to learn from ICC and ACC qualified coaches.
