Students from Texas A&M University at Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university, won third place at the global Invent for the Planet event held recently at the flagship campus in College Station, Texas (USA). Started by Texas A&M University, the annual competition asks students from more than 24 participating universities worldwide to tackle the most challenging issues facing the world today in just 48 hours.
The Texas A&M at Qatar students, Team Eco-Engineers, qualified after winning the Qatar leg of the competition earlier this year. The team included Abdulaziz Al-Fakhroo, Hind Fakhroo, Joud Massalkhi, Meera Jarrar, Roudha Al-Khaldi and Punit Pande, who won for their innovation Solar Path, a self-healing solar cell with lens concentrator designed lower the maintenance cost and improve the efficiency of solar panels.
