The camping season starts in Qatar every year at the beginning of November, when thousands of citizens go camping in the desert and at the beaches, setting up traditional tents and caravans that are specially prepared for this purpose.
In this season, which is characterized by moderate temperatures, these areas turns into tourist destinations that attract thousands of citizens, residents and visitors to the country from different parts of the world. This season is also filled with many activities and events that enhance both domestic and foreign tourism and reflect interest in heritage values.
The State of Qatar is one of the GCC countries whose residents are interested in camping, which represents an annual tradition inherited through generations. Camping involves leaving urban areas and living in caravans and tents with modern design and equipment that combines traditions and modernity.
The camping season attracts thousands of Qatari families who head towards the desert or on the beautiful sandy beaches. Thousands of visitors also attend this winter-spring event to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and watch the performances and activities that usually accompany the season, such as horse and camel rides, beach buggy and barbeque nights.
Number of camps that are booked annually by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment exceeds 2,500 camps each season, while the number of camping areas increased this year to more than 30 areas compared to 17 last year, distributed all over the country.
In its keenness to boost the comfort and safety of the people, Qatar has taken many measures represented in the conditions that must be followed during the camping season to ensure the preservation of the Qatari environment, including the opening of HMC's medical clinic and an ambulance point that operates around the clock with all equipment and medicines available to treat emergency cases. It has also built a helipad for air ambulances to receive visitors from the camps.
Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) also provided a seasonal station to fill water tanks to provide safe drinking water that is subject to the highest quality standards for camping visitors.
The country exerts great efforts in raising awareness among the public about safe practices in recreational areas, encouraging them to abide by safety guidelines, and urging them to take the necessary preventive measures when carrying out recreational activities in these areas.
Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs organizes educational programs for campers during the weekends in various regions of the country to achieve societal communication and promote positive behavior during camping, especially among youth.
Qatar has coasts extending to 563 kilometers as well as numerous beautiful beaches, which provides ample space to choose camping areas, the most prominent of which is Sealine Beach on the eastern coast south of Mesaieed city.
Khor al Udaid, about 60 kilometers from the capital Doha, is also one of the most important and wonderful tourism spots in Qatar, and one of the destinations that attract campers and visitors of the country, throughout the seasons of the year, for its beauty and fascinating nature.
Considering the role of the camping season in promoting tourism and attracting tourists and visitors from different countries of the world, the State of Qatar has paid great attention to tourism activities of a traditional and cultural nature, as it made plans and projects to create a tourism industry that combines modernity while preserving originality and identity, benefiting from its historical and cultural legacy.
