Qatar has always been supportive of all regional and international efforts to find a just solution to the Syrian crisis that respects the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, achieves the aspirations of its people and is based on UN Resolution 2254 in all its humanitarian and political aspects, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi has said.

Dr Khulaifi make the remarks at the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level on developments in the Syrian crisis, the situation in Sudan and developments in the Palestinian cause held at the headquarters of the League’s General Secretariat in Cairo on Sunday.

“Qatar always seeks to support what meets the Arab consensus and will not be an obstacle to that, and this consensus today is mainly related to the regime’s return to the Arab League,” he said, adding: “As for the official position of Qatar towards restoring relations with the regime, it is fully linked to progress in the path of a political solution according to relevant international resolutions.”

He expressed Qatar’s aspiration to work with the Arab brothers so that this return contributes to finding a just political solution that achieves dignity for the Syrian people and meets their aspirations for peace and prosperity.

He also stressed that Qatar did not hesitate to support the Syrian people in their ordeal on the humanitarian level during the 12 years of the crisis.

On the developments in Sudan, the minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar’s aspiration for initial talks between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of Jeddah to pave the way for a permanent and comprehensive cessation of the military conflict, and then engagement in broad negotiations involving all Sudanese political forces to reach a comprehensive agreement and sustainable peace that achieves the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people for stability, development and prosperity.

He also reaffirmed Qatar’s position calling for an immediate end to the fighting in Sudan, exercising maximum restraint, resorting to the voice of reason, giving priority to the public interest, sparing civilians the consequences of the fighting, and facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid to those affected by it.

On the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, he reaffirmed Qatar’s firm position on the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the full right to practise their religious rites without restrictions and to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
